prelim development
Prelim task; analysis and evaluation.
The prelim was our very first filming task when we first started the course. We were put into groups and didn’t have much time to plan our clip. We had little knowledge of camera angles, sounds and editing which we had to practice and play with to produce our clip. The prelim was a preset task, which means we had very little freedom in regards to what we wanted out clip to consist of or be imaginative though out the clip. However our prelim task helped us understand what it takes to produce a short film and what more we had to do to be able to produce a film to flow properly from clip to clip. Our prelim has educated us greatly as we have learned from our mistakes. We have had time to get to know each other now so the awkward shyness has been overcome. We have also had lots of time to plan the content of the prelim and to plan what camera angles we want it to consist of we all agree that the research and planning has enabled us to be more professional and mature within our filming and editing, from this we agreed that the more time we have the better the film will be as there will be no need for improvisation on site filming as we will all know what we want to do. This has in turn enabled us to produce a more realistic opening sequence. Within the planning process we had a rough plan and storyboard which through practice we have been able to develop our storyboard this time into a concise, in depth working storyboard which indicates our next clips which helped us massively in our filming as we didn’t need to waste time pondering what to do next.

Phone Call To Staincliffe Hotel
We contacted the Staincliffe to try and confirm a booking of one of their function rooms. This was to give the correct backdrop for the film noir that we were creating:
The conversation was along the lines of:
'Hi, I was wondering if a media group from Hartlepool Sixth Form College could use a function room to film some of our coursework. We won't disturb anyone and be very grateful'

9 Screen analysis
The title sequence of Seven tells us more about the type of person John Doe is before we meet him. We see that he is an educated man who has a masochistic side to him. We see him taking his fingers prints off with a sharp blade so he cant be caught. He is also making diary notes about his potential victims. We see a lot of newspaper cuttings which resembles the typical genre of film noir. During the sequence there is music which creates an eery feel and builds up the type of film and character the viewer is going to learn about. The text of the actors/directors etc are white and move within the beat of the music they look as if they have been handwritten which give a personal attachment from film to audience. The writing looks scratchy and rushed which backs up the feel of the film. The film is generally about; greed, money, envy and religion. During the opening sequence we also get an insight into John Doe's thinking methods as we learn that he is wanting to rein-act the seven deadly sins. The ending of the film is leaves the viewer in a down beat mood as it finishes on a sorrowful note.
