9 Screen analysis
The title sequence of Seven tells us more about the type of person John Doe is before we meet him. We see that he is an educated man who has a masochistic side to him. We see him taking his fingers prints off with a sharp blade so he cant be caught. He is also making diary notes about his potential victims. We see a lot of newspaper cuttings which resembles the typical genre of film noir. During the sequence there is music which creates an eery feel and builds up the type of film and character the viewer is going to learn about. The text of the actors/directors etc are white and move within the beat of the music they look as if they have been handwritten which give a personal attachment from film to audience. The writing looks scratchy and rushed which backs up the feel of the film. The film is generally about; greed, money, envy and religion. During the opening sequence we also get an insight into John Doe's thinking methods as we learn that he is wanting to rein-act the seven deadly sins. The ending of the film is leaves the viewer in a down beat mood as it finishes on a sorrowful note.
